Paying for Ranks, Listings and Spidering

At some point you will want to consider paying money in order to get into the engines and directories. It's just plain easier. You will have to weigh the cost of your time to optimize against the cost of the service.

You have several choices:

  1. Pay an SEO to optimize your pages for you
  2. Pay for listings in the major directories (Yahoo and LookSmart).
  3. Pay for spidering (Inktomi).
  4. Pay search engines for ranks on specific keywords. (Several articles below will explain this process.)

When you pay for Listings or Spidering you have no guarantee of ranks.

In our professional opinion, the following are the minimum that you should pay for:

  1. Pay for the Yahoo listing. $299 Yahoo
  2. Consider Overture ($20 monthly minimum to get started bidding on ranks.) This one takes a little work, you will have to track your sales and your hits from Overture to find out if it is worth it. Overture
