If you are interested in streaming videos, you are not alone. As you probably know, these have become more or less a sensation over the past year or so. More people than ever before are watching streaming videos, and of course, sharing them with their friends. But before you can get involved with these, you may want to learn a bit more about the facts and details that are behind streaming videos.

Most importantly, as a general user, you will want to learn about the most popular streaming video formats. After all, the format that you use will have a lot to do with how you watch videos, as well as the overall quality.

Since Windows is the most common operating system in today’s day and age, it only make sense that Windows Media is among the most popular streaming video programs. There are many benefits of this format, such as high quality videos and an easy to use interface. But with that being said, this format is not ideal for people who do not use Internet Explorer.

In the old days, RealMedia used to be the king of streaming video. But as Windows Media has developed more and more, they have taken a back seat. To go along with increased competition, the quality offered by RealMedia also lacks in a number of different areas.

Finally, Apple users would never forget to mention Quicktime. This is the streaming video format that is used on Apple computers. If you do not have an Apple, or use one on a regular basis, it is safe to say that you may not be aware of what Quicktime has to offer. But with that being said, Quicktime does offer many benefits, with the only downfall being the technical complexity of the format.

As you can see by now, if you are interested in streaming video, you have many formats to consider. Streaming video is far from a one size fits all operation!
