One way I am gaining additional traffic to my website (without spending a lot of cash) is by bidding for key words at the GoTo search engine.
You may not recall my results for July. It was 154 visitors at a cost of $24 or 15 cents each. Below are my latest numbers.—————————–
These are targeted prospects who clicked (my link) after searching for key words related to my ezine. GoTo is now included in Netscape’s Netcenter search and this arrangement has greatly increased the number of web surfers who use GoTo to search each day. Here’s how I found to get improved results at GoTo.com.
STEP #1: Try Several Keywords and Phrases
Select a variety of words and phrases that best describe your website. Think of words potential customers would use to find a business such as yours.
STEP #2: Use Highly Searched Terms
GoTo provides a listing of top search words if you are having trouble finding words to choose. You’ll get more traffic bidding on popular words (that large numbers of people are looking for) then by selecting words that are seldom searched.
STEP #3: Create Appealing Descriptions
Let people know why they should visit your site. Ask a question or include web attracting words such as Free, Discounts, Information, Specials and other tempting choices.
STEP #4: Bid More Then 1 cent Per Click
How much is a customer worth to you? That will depend on your own product or profit. Many top bids can be bought for under 30 cents per click although some words such as “marketing” may run as high as $2 or more.
You don’t have to be a #1 choice but the closer you are to the top of the list the greater are your chances of being clicked.
Does GoTo advertising compare favorable to banner exchanges and free search engines? No! Not hardly. My ezine and personal sites may draw over 500+ per month from banners and upwards of 5,000+ people a week from search engines alone.
My total price per click is…
ZERO or NO COST at All!
GoTo will never replace Yahoo or the other big search engines. It is an excellent way to learn about drawing search engine traffic.
Once you discover which words and phrases are working at GoTo you can apply these same terms to other search engines. You can’t bid for top placement at AltaVista or Excite but knowing which words are most valuable will help you attract more visitors at any of the major sites.
GoTo has brought me nearly 550 new visitors at a reasonable price. I recommend it for all webmasters with any size advertising budget.
See you near the top,
